Reaction to the election

Emma -
Q- One of the changes outlined in this article is that Prime Minister Trudeau will ensure that half of his cabinet are women. Why do you think this is a priority for him?

A- I think that having half of Trudeau’s cabinet as women is a priority to him because having women in the cabinet can give an aspect of gender equality through Canada, also it is important also because it shows that they can give women power and respect because they can bring different aspects to the table on different subjects it also gives women a role model to look up too and be strong in their darkest moments.

Spencer -
I do think that Justin Trudeau’s family history will affect how he leads the country. I think this because he will want to improve Canada as a whole, so he can look back when his father was Prime Minister. He can find what worked and what didn’t work for Pierre Trudeau as he was Prime Minister to assist him make hard, difficult decision. So in conclusion I think that Justin Trudeau’s family history will affect the way that he will lead our country.

Alexis -
I think it is a priority for Prime Minister Trudeau to ensure that half of his cabinet are women because is shows equality and it shows different perspectives. I think this is important because for many years women weren't allowed to do much, this is also important because it shows that men aren’t still above women. I also think showing different perspectives when making big decisions is important because men and women sometimes see different sides.

Kasia -
I think that Justin Trudeau family history will affect him on how he governs Canada by following in his father's footsteps. He might think his father was a good man and wants to be like him. Justin Trudeau might also think some of his dad's decision were not good and want to make Canada a better place to live. His family would want him to be like his father. So yes I do think Justin Trudeauś history will affect him in what he does for Canada.

If I were Prime Minister a change I would make is lower education fees. I would lower education fees so more kids could afford to go to school, learn and get a job. Another change I would make is make more jobs for girls and women. I would create more jobs for women because it will insure gender equality.

Why is it that only 12% of cabinet members are women? Why is it that in 2015 Justin Trudeau is bringing more women in cabinet than ever before? Justin Trudeau will ensure half of the cabinet members are women. This will make Justin a more likeable guy to both men and women, it's also a good thing towards gender equality.  I used to think the guy had bad ideas, but this is a good one of his ideas! I think he will have some good ideas for the future of Canada.I think and hope he has more good ideas for the future of Canada.

October 20 - Name one trait our new Prime Minister should possess

Kristen
One trait I would like our new prime minister to possess is leadership. I would like our new prime minister to possess leadership because he is going to be leading the country for 4 years. I would like to see this trait in our new prime minister to insure that we have picked the right representative for our country that will make good choices for this country.

Hope

One character trait that I want our new Prime Minister to have is excitement because we will all have an exciting country and we will all be anxious to see what good thing our new Prime Minister is going to do.

Lucas
One trait I hope our new Prime Minister possess is honesty. I hope he does what he said he would do if he was elected. He made several promises. Because of this, people believed in him and voted for him.

Respond to the novel, Iqbal

Kate
The novel, Iqbal is very interesting and most of it leaves me wondering what is going to happen next. In the novel we are at the part where the children have been freed and Iqbal is helping to free others but the people that live in the town and that own the carpet factories and brick making factories have become very aware that he would be coming to their factory so now when they are in the square people get enraged towards them. The parts of the story when this happens I feel bad for them because they didn’t ask for this life but they got it anyway.

Ethan

When I read the book Iqbal I felt awful to hear that they were forced to work for a man or woman who they would have to call master or they were punished. They sleep on rock hard beds, only got to go to the bathroom once a day, and got little amounts of food. Another part in the book that made me feel awful was when Iqbal`s master paid of the police so he didn't get thrown in jail for the terrible things he did to the kids, by putting them in a tomb, chain them up to their looms and beat them if they're not cooperating.

Josh
The Book Iqbal is astounding because it has made me feel angry.

When I read about children being mistreated by grownups it makes me angry as it’s horrible to see kids in pain at the hands of treating grownups. In my life today I trust adults to be a positive influence to the kids.

Aliya
The book Iqbal made me feel upset because it’s really sad that people do that to kids but it was also kind of inspiring because Iqbal had the courage to stand up to the people who were keeping kids as slaves.

Jocelyn
The novel has made me feel sorry for Iqbal.
One part of the novel has made me feel sorry for the kids is when they have to do all the work they do. This makes me have pity because, they don’t deserve to work that hard. Also, they barely get anything from it.
Another example is the kids are extremely skinny and do not eat a lot. This makes me feel sorry because, the kids are working hard, which would make them hungry. They do not receive proper meals.
I also find the book boring at times.

What Makes A Hero?

Kenny -

I think one characteristic a hero has to have is the virtue of being selfless. I think this because in the CNN student news Dr.Jim Withers is being selfless and bringing medical aid to the homeless people and people of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.I think this is being selfless because he is caring about people who cant get medical aid for themselves. He use to dress like a homeless to earn their trust but now he does not because he trust them.

A hero is someone who helps another person. A helpful person is a hero because, most heroes help others and do not ask for anything in return, especially money.
One example is Richard Joyner from North Carolina. Joyner, a local pastor, started a community garden after watching many of his parishioners die from preventable diseases. This shows he is a hero because, he is helping less fortunate people.

What Makes a Hero
By Zach

I think to be considered a hero you should be selfless. You should be willing to put yourself before others to contribute to the greater good. When you think of a hero you think of superman or ironman, not all heroes are seen in movies or comic books, they are normal people found in everyday life. Iraq and Afghanistan combat veteran, Sean Goblin, has been through many troubling war experiences and has processed them by hiking along 2,168 mile Appalachian Trail. He later named it the “Warrior Hike” and has helped many war veterans process their troubling war experience by guiding them along the trail. He put his life on hold to help other war veterans overcome their war experience which is a prime example of selflessness. In conclusion, to be considered a hero you should be selfless, just as Sean Goblin demonstrates when he helps war veterans process troubling war experiences in what he calls “walking off the war.”

What makes a hero?
Simon

A hero is someone who has performed an outstanding achievement usually to benefit someone who is in need. A great example of this is Dr. Daniel Ivankovich. For 5 years he has given free healthcare for over 5 years and has help over 100,000 people. This is a proof that he is hero because he gives up his time to help 100,000 of people who don’t have the money to pay for surgery or health care. That is why I think that Dr. Daniel Ivankovich is a hero.
What Makes a Hero - M.K response

A hero is someone who is willing to help anyone else in need. A hero is someone who respects others. An example of a hero is Dr.Jim Withers has taken his  medical practice to the streets of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he is offering free quality healthcare to the homeless. That shows respect because he is giving up his time for homeless people for free.
